La Mosaique was inspired by my grandmother's mosaic cement bench in her rose garden years ago. My father and his younger brother, Jim were given $7 and told to walk down the street from their home in Cottage Grove Houston and pick out their favorite mosaic cement bench with two legs and bring It back with their wagon. My dad says he was around eight and his brother was six. He said it was difficult to manage as it almost fell out of their red wagon twice but they got it home. Painted in a dark mermaid green and tiled with an array of many colors.....it was beautiful. My dad is 83 1/2 years old so we are talking 75 years ago and the bench is still in good shape.(My father has now passed away) The old bench does not need to be regrouted...and the tiles are still in good shape. Enclosed is an image of the bench not cleaned up.
I have since cleaned up the old bench and will paint it again the mermaid green it once was.
After purchasing some plain cement benches at the local garden chains and having them fall apart in a matter of two years, I knew that I wanted to make my own and wanted to make the kind my grandmother had in her garden.
